Record Instagram Reels while you read your script

Reels in 9:16, feed videos in 4:5, with the script scrolling right under the camera. You get an MP4 that Instagram accepts, ready to share from your phone.

Step by step: one take, every shape

  1. Frame inside the safe zones. Turn on Safe zones to see where TikTok, Reels and Shorts put their buttons and captions. Keep your face and words clear of them.
  2. Pick every shape you need. In Review, tick 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 and 16:9. Each version is reframed around you from the same take, with captions placed for that shape.

The right shape for each place

9:16Reels and Stories
4:5Feed posts: takes up the most room in the feed
1:1Square posts and carousels

The camera preview in ClippCut is cropped to the shape you pick, so you can check your framing before you record.

MP4, because Instagram needs it

Instagram takes MP4 video. ClippCut makes MP4 in Safari on iPhone and iPad and in Chrome and Edge on Android and computers. If a browser can only make WebM, ClippCut tells you before you post, so you can switch browsers.

Steps

  1. Open ClippCut and tap Script. Paste your script, or try 3 tips in 45 seconds.
  2. Pick 9:16 for a Reel or 4:5 for the feed.
  3. Record, trim the dead air at the start, and tap Share → Instagram.

Reels and feed posts from one take

With Pro, record once in 9:16 and make a 4:5 version for the feed at the same time. Each version is reframed around you, with the captions placed for that shape, so the feed post doesn't look like a cropped Reel.

A Reel structure that works for most topics

  1. Hook (0 to 3 seconds): the result, the mistake or the question.
  2. Body (3 to 25 seconds): the steps or the story, one per sentence.
  3. Ending (last 3 seconds): one call to action, or loop back to the hook.

The ready-made scripts follow this shape. Use the hook generator for the first line.

Instagram's cover and caption area

Instagram crops the grid preview of a Reel and covers the bottom with your caption and buttons. Turn on Safe zones while recording to keep your face and words in the clear area.

Questions

Can I add captions?

Yes. Captions come from your script as you read it and are drawn into the video, free in the Pop style. ClippCut Pro adds the Punch, Karaoke, Hero and Clean styles. There’s an .srt file too.

Will it look blurry?

Free videos are 720p, which is sharp on a phone screen. ClippCut Pro records 1080p.
